You can be an actual player, not just a spectator

Being a watcher doesn't mean you're locked out of playing — it means you can't *host* a round yourself without upgrading. You can absolutely be added as a real player in someone else's round, and a full member's league, tournament, or group roster. You show up in the scoring, the results, the season standings — everything a regular player gets — the watcher restriction is specifically about starting your own round, not participating in one.

Your own Played and Watched history

Every round you've actually played in — regardless of who hosted it — and every round you've watched via a share link both build their own history you can look back on. These live as their own tabs, separate from a host's own list, so you always have a record of what you played and what you followed along on, even if you never host a single round yourself.

Leagues, tournaments, and groups as a participant

A watcher can be a full roster member of a league, tournament, or group — showing up on the schedule, submitting availability, appearing in the standings, and playing in the actual rounds. What a watcher can't do is *organize* one of these (that requires an upgraded account) — but being on the roster and playing the games has never required anything more than a free account.

Live Side Action and Pick'em

Watching a round live isn't passive — the 19th Hole tab lets a spectator place Side Action bets (over/under lines and hole-by-hole prop bets on the players in that round) and, when a league host has one running, enter a Pick'em contest picking who'll win. Both are built for the person following along, not the person playing — you don't need to be in the round to have real stakes in how it goes.

Keeping friends

A watcher account keeps the same Friends feature as anyone else — adding people, following their rounds, and controlling your own privacy settings around who sees your activity. Following the app socially, not just transactionally, doesn't require a paid tier.

Automatic notifications, no digging required

You don't have to remember to check in on a round. Once you're added to a round as a player, or you've watched a round via a share link, theStick automatically sends you push notifications for the things that matter — when a round you're in wraps up, when someone hits a birdie, when there's a result to see. You don't hunt for updates; they land on your home screen as they happen, for both rounds you're actually playing and ones you've simply watched.

The one thing that requires upgrading

The entire list above is free, permanently — a watcher account is never auto-charged and never expires into anything worse. The one gate is hosting: starting your own round, or organizing your own league, tournament, or group, requires a member or trial account. Everything about *participating* — playing, following, betting socially, keeping friends, getting notified — is already yours the moment you sign up.
