What to actually say

You don't need a script or exact phrasing. Say a player's name and their result, the same way you'd say it out loud to your group anyway: "Alvin birdie," "Rich bogey," "Mike, four." Multiple players in one breath works too — rattle off the whole group's scores for a hole and each one gets attached to the right player. You can lead with the number or the word ("par" and "4" mean the same thing on a par 4) — say whichever comes naturally.

Why this matters more in golf than it sounds like

A tap-to-enter scorecard assumes you stop walking, pull out your phone, and tap through a grid — for every player, every hole. That's a lot of phone time on a course, and it's exactly the kind of friction that makes people give up on tracking scores after a few holes. Voice entry is designed around the actual rhythm of a round: you're already saying scores out loud as you walk off the green. theStick is just listening to the conversation that was going to happen anyway.

Fixing a misheard score

Microphones on a windy course, next to a cart engine, aren't perfect — a misheard score will happen occasionally, and it's not a big deal. Two ways to fix it:

If you're not confident a score landed right, glance at the scorecard tab before moving on — it updates live, so you can catch a mis-hear within seconds rather than at the 19th hole.

Voice entry works alongside every side game

Saying a score doesn't just fill in gross strokes — it's also what feeds skins, wolf, nassau, dots, and whatever else is running that round. You don't narrate the side bets separately; the settlement math for every game active in your round reads from the same scores you're already saying out loud. That's the part that actually saves time: one voice entry, every game's money updates.

When to just tap instead

Voice entry is the fast path for the common case — a normal stroke count on a hole everyone's watching. For anything unusual (an X score you want capped, an override on a handicap-heavy hole, entering a score well after the fact from memory), tapping into the hole directly is often just as fast and removes any ambiguity. There's no wrong way to enter a score — voice and manual entry write to the exact same place, so mixing both within one round is completely normal.
