How It Works

A scramble variant that forces balanced contribution. Both partners hit every shot as in a normal scramble and the team plays the better result — but whichever partner's shot got picked has to sit out the very next shot, so the other partner has to hit alone that one time before both are back in. Also known as Step-Aside or Dropout Scramble. One combined score per team per hole.

Scoring in theStick

The hole entry screen shows one score row per team — enter the team's score once and it fills every teammate's scorecard automatically. Because nobody plays their own ball to the hole, these rounds never count toward anyone's theStick Handicap. theStick doesn't track who hit which shot — the step-aside rule is self-officiated by your group, same as every other on-course procedural rule in these formats.

Options & Variations

Bet-per-player (default $10). Net scoring (default on): each team gets a whole-round allowance defaulting to a 40/20 split — a touch more generous than plain Scramble's 35/15, since the step-aside rule occasionally forces a single-ball shot with no "best of" advantage. In a round with more than 4 players, pick which 4 play — same picker as Scramble/Chapman.

Payouts

Everyone antes the bet-per-player. Lowest team net (or gross, with net off) takes the pot, split among its members; ties split the pot across the tied teams.

Pro Tips

• Track mentally whose turn it is to sit out — it's easy to forget mid-round and accidentally play a normal scramble.
• A weaker player benefits the most from this format — they're guaranteed real reps instead of always deferring to the stronger partner.
